The project

This conceptual vinyl cover was created as part of an academic design project. The objective was to translate the emotional themes of Alex Warren’s album You’ll Be Alright, Kid into a cohesive visual identity.

The album explores themes of grief, childhood, faith, hope, and personal growth, with strong influences from folk music and spiritual imagery. To reflect these themes, I placed a child in the foreground against towering mountains and a dense forest. By manipulating the perspective, the landscape appears monumental, emphasizing the child’s vulnerability and the overwhelming nature of loss and life’s challenges.

The mountains and forest were intentionally darkened to create a mysterious and dramatic atmosphere that complements the album’s folk-inspired sound. To balance this darkness, I introduced rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds. This element symbolizes the church-inspired tones present throughout the album, while also representing the sense of hope expressed in its title. The child’s upward gaze reinforces this narrative.

For the back cover, I shifted the perspective into the forest itself. This creates a visual connection with the front cover while offering a contrasting viewpoint, immersing the viewer within the environment rather than observing it from afar. The tracklist is integrated into this scene to maintain a consistent visual language across the vinyl packaging.

The concept aims to communicate the album’s emotional journey through composition, perspective, lighting, and symbolism, creating a visual narrative that reflects both its lyrical themes and musical atmosphere.
